Recognition

First Quarter 2012

The Rochester Borough Development Corporation (RBDC) has chosen HUB Finance as this quarter's featured Downtown Recognition Recipient. HUB Finance is located at 203 Brighton Avenue in Rochester and is going into its 57th year of business, serving Rochester and surrounding communities!

HUB Finance is the only locally owned finance company in Beaver County. HUB is also independent of any holding company and boasts that more than 90 percent of its loans and investment certificate holders are from Beaver County.

HUB provides personal loans both secured and unsecured for autos, home improvements, vacations, bill consolidations, and many other money needs. HUB's philosophy continues to be that of their original founder, Carl Anzio, "if you take care of the customer, the customer will take care of you."

Should money needs arise, feel free to contact one of HUB's professional staff members in person or by phone at 724-775-4080.

The RBDC is pleased to have HUB Finance located in our downtown and thanks them for their commitment to Rochester.

Fourth Quarter 2011

The Rochester Borough Development Corporation (RBDC) has chosen Mr. Doug Martin, Manager of the Rochester Giant Eagle as this quarter's Downtown Recognition Recipient. Mr. Martin is being recognized because the committee values his service and commitment to our community.

The Giant Eagle facility is an important mainstay in Rochester. Not only do they provide a service to our residents, and those who visit Rochester, but they offer an invaluable on-going dedication and support to our community non-profit organizations. We congratulate Mr. Martin and the Giant Eagle facility and wish them continued success with the business.

Third Quarter 2011

The Rochester Borough Development Corporation (RBDC) has chosen the Rochester Bloomers, Betty Murtha, Carol Kisella and Kathleen Steel as its 3rd Quarter Downtown Recognition recipients for 2011. Betty, Carol and Kathleen are being recognized for the wonderful spirit of volunteerism and as leaders in our community.

Betty, Carol and Kathleen have planted flower planters in Rochester with seasonal flowers for many years. This effort has inspired a host of other Rochester businesses to keep up the beautification of the town by maintaining their planters each season. Individual attention to these kinds of details in our downtown is what is needed toward our goal of making Rochester a more attractive place to live and shop.

Carol, Betty and Kathleen have also been an integral part of many important community life activities in town. Through their efforts, Rochester has enjoyed revitalization in the areas of business development and community life.

Second Quarter 2011

The Rochester Borough Development Corporation (RBDC) has chosen Frank Elia as its 2nd Quarter Downtown Recognition recipient for 2011. Frank is the owner of Hollywood Gardens and is very committed to downtown revitalization.  He has remodeled his property at 169 Pinney Street, introduced live music on Saturday nights and drummer Bryan Fazio on Tuesdays.  Last year, he built an outdoor patio and is planning to construct a lower patio on Brighton Avenue this summer. He hopes to brew his own craft beers at Hollywood Gardens and expand to the Acon building, which he purchased, with the hopes of distributing his beer regionally.  This business plan invests money in our downtown, attracts visitors to Rochester and creates new jobs.

The RBDC congratulates Frank on this well-deserved honor and thanks him for his untiring commitment to our revitalization initiatives.

First Quarter 2011

The Rochester Borough Development Corporation has chosen the teachers and students from Rochester Elementary School as its 1st Quarter Downtown Recognition recipients for 2011.  On Friday, December 3rd, this group of over 30 students and teachers braved the bitter cold to sing carols and decorate the Christmas tree in the center of Monument Park. The kids made all of the beautiful ornaments that hung on the tree and were rewarded with cookies and hot chocolate for their efforts. Also assisting in this project were members of the Borough Street Department, Maria Longo, chair of the RBDC, Rocco Longo and Candy Farmer, Community Life chair of the RBDC.

Participants included: Mrs. Natalie West, music teacher; Mrs. McGuire’s 6th grade chorus; Mrs. Deal, art teacher and Mrs. Laskey, principal.  The kindergarten classes made the blue and white chains, 1st grade made “the HUB”; 2nd grade made the ram’s head; 3rd grade made the bridge; 4th grade made snowflakes; 5th grade made 3D balls and the 6th grade made footballs.

The Board sends a sincere THANK YOU to all of you who helped make our downtown so festive for the holidays!

Fourth Quarter 2010

The Rochester Borough Development Corporation has chosen the Rochester Chamber of Commerce as its 4th Quarter Downtown Recognition recipient for 2010.  The Chamber is being honored for its financial sponsorship of Autumn Fest in October and HUB Up in Smoke in July. Both events contribute greatly to our Community Life initiatives, drawing lots of visitors to our downtown.

HUB Up in Smoke is our annual car cruise which is always a crowd-pleaser.  Everyone seems to be especially fascinated by the “burn-outs”.

Autumn Fest was a new event this year, held on October 2nd.  The weather was beautiful, food was delicious and lots of happy families enjoyed the day. Proceeds from the event benefit Light Up Night.

The RBDC thanks the Chamber for its generosity and dedication to our downtown revitalization goals.

Third Quarter 2010

The Rochester Borough Development Corporation has chosen the Rochester Volunteer Fire Department and the East Rochester Volunteer Fire Department as its 3rd Quarter Downtown Recognition recipients for 2010.

Both organizations are being recognized for their co-sponsorship of this year’s HUB Up in Smoke Car Cruise held on July 31 from Noon to 9 PM. This year’s event is expected to be bigger than ever with lots of vendors, music and entertainment. Classic cars, food and beverage vendors and disc jockeys will line Brighton Avenue and Adams Street. Children’s activities, face-painting and family entertainment provide something for everyone. The much-anticipated Burn-outs will take place on Connecticut Avenue at 6 PM.

Proceeds from this extremely popular event support the Rochester Firefighters Fundraising Fund and help with the purchase of equipment.

The RBDC thanks our VFD’s for their continued dedication to our community.

Second Quarter 2010

My Heroes Sub Shop
is being recognized by the Rochester Borough Development Corporation for its 23 years of success on Brighton Avenue.  Owner Steve Nikithser opened his shop in 1987 and has been running it, alone, for all these years.  His varied menu includes 19 different sandwiches, with the Italian Sub being number one !!!

First Quarter 2010

The Rochester Borough Development Corporation has selected Rivertown Antiques as its 1st Quarter Downtown Recognition Recipient for 2010.  Owners Ann Sutherland and Kim Rosenberger are being recognized for locating their business on Brighton Avenue.  Their attractive storefront and displays bring color and life to the downtown. Fourth Quarter 2009 Downtown Recognition: Main Street Awards:

On Wednesday, October 28th each of the ten Riverfront towns honored individuals and businesses that made outstanding contributions to their downtowns.  Recognition was made in three categories: Business Development, Architecture & Design and Community Life.
